Abstract
This paper deals with the basic characteristics of regional ore mineralization in Jiangxi province in the light of ore-bearlng sedimentary formations and ore-bearing magmatic formations and their structural controlling factors. Stress is laid on ore-bearing sedimentary formations, particularly the important role of polymineralic volcanic-sedimentary formations in ore-forming processes in various geologic ages. The author points out that the presence of ore-bearing sedimentary formations is the foundation for ore-forming processes of various ages in Jiangxi. The differences in material composition of polymineralic volcanic-sedimentary formations and degree of development of their rock types are the important cause accounting for the distinct difference between the types of ore deposit of northern and southern Jiangxi. On that basis and in connection with the basic characteristics of ore-forming processes, metallogenic environment and ore-forming mechanism, the main ore deposits in the province are classified into five major genetic types, litho-bound deposits, sedimentary deposits, strata-bound deposits, supergene deposits and deposits controlled by several factors. Their formation and distribution are intimately associated with four metallogenic systems in the province, and hence may reflect the eyolution of the four metallogenic systems and their genetic concepts and models in a comprehensive way and provide basic data upon which further mineral prospecting work can be based.
