CLASSIFICATION AND CORRELATION OF TONG’ANLING NIULALING VOLCANIC STRATA IN SOUTHERN HAINAN

    • The Tong’anling Niulaling volcanic strata are divided into the Liuluocun,Tangtadaling and Lingkecun Formations, with a total thickness up to 5429 m.The Liuluocun Formation consists dominantly of basalt andesitic rocks in the lower part and rhyolitic pyroclastics and lavas, the Tangtadaling Formation is composed chiefly of dacitic rocks, and the Lingkecun Formation is represented by rhyolitic rocks, which form two eruptive cycles.Volcanic rocks are Early Cretaceous in age and were formed contemporaneously with the Lower Cretaceous Lumuwan Formation in Hainan Island, being equivalent to Cretaceous volcanic rocks occurring along the coast of southeastern China.
