THE FUNCTIONAL CLASSIFICATION OF FAULTS IN CONTINENTAL EXTENSIONAL TECTONIC AREAS

    • In continental extensional tectonic areas, there are three sets of faults with their respective functions, extensional faults, adjustment faults and detachment faults, which form an extensional chain fault system and Show the basic geometric pattern of extensional structure. This paper gives the features and identification criteria of the three sets of fault aud then deals with the spatial transition of their roles. Finally the Western Shandong extensional chain fault system is established.
