A discussion on assessment and development of karst tourism resources in Fangshan district, Beijing——a proposal for establishing a national karst park in Beijing

    • In the central and western Fangshan district, Beijing, there are distributed carbonate rocks occupying an area of 900 sq. km, where karst landscapes are distinguished. This area boasts 5 tourist attractions, i.e., the Shidu karst canyon spots, the Shijingshan-Shangfangshan scenic spots known for Buddha temples, the Zhoukoudian historical site famous for Peking Man's cave home, the Shihuadong-Yinhudong karst scenic caves and the Shengmishitang-Wanqingyuan canyon spots. An idea is born that a national karst park in Beijing is proposed to be set up on the basis of the above tourist zones.
