Abstract
In southeastern Shanxi the Shanxi Formation contains three beds of fusulinid-bearing limestones; from the base upward they are Maoguzhang limestone,Fucheng limestone and Xiaodonggou limestone, which contain 47 species, subspecies or varieties and some indeterminate species in 15 genera. Their systematic evolution permits us to divide them into one zone and two subzones: Pseudoschwngerina,(s.l.)zone: 2.Schwagerina andresemsis-Schwagerina guembeli subzone; 1.Schwagerina nobilis subzone. The Pseudoschwagering (s.l.)zone represents the three above-metioned beds of fusulinid-bearing limestones of the Shanxi Formation. The Schwagerina nobilis subzone includes the Maoguzhang limestone and the Fucheng limestone, and the Schwagerina andresensis-Schwagerina guembeli subzone represents the fusulinid fauna of the Xiaodonggou limestone. The Upper Carboniferous Shanxi Formation in southeastern Shanxi is equivalent to the greater part of the Baomoshan Formation of the Upper Carboniferous in Puan and Qinglong,Guizhou, and the upper part of the Wolfcampian to the base of the Leonardian in North America; it can also be correlated with the Sakmarian of the Urals region, U.S.S.R.
