FEATURES OF PLIOCENE STRATA AND LITHOSTRATIGRAPHIC UNITS ON HAINAN ISLAND

    • Pliocene marine deposits are distributed in the Qiongbei down-faulted basin and along the southwest coast of Hainan Island (named the Foluo basin temporarily). Divergent views exist as to what lithostratigraphic units should be adopted for the strata. Some geologists propose that the Wanglougang Formation be used for the former, while the Yinggouhai Formation for the latter. The author suggests that the Haikou Formation be used for the former, while the Wanglougang for the latter.
