THE QUARTERNARY CLIMATE AND THE FUTURE CLIMATE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE IN CHINA

    • This paper enumerates nine macroscopic climatic indicators in the study of China’s Quaternary climate:Quaternary glacial vestiges, periglacial structure, mammal fossils, plant (including sporopollen) fossils, mollusk fossils,foramin- iferal fossils, lithology, karst and sea-level oscillation.Besides there are also microscopic climatic indicators and historical climatic indicators. On that basis, the author elucidates the basic characteristics of China’s Quaternary climatic change, summerizes the climate regimes in several catastropic severe-cold (or glacial)periods and hypsithermal (or interglacial) periods in the history of China’s Quaternary climatic changes and has roughly reconstructed the palcoen- vironment. On the basis of the above study, the author discusses the possible favourable and unfavouable influences of the continuous development of the trend of global temperature increase in the future 100 years on the climates and environmental changes in various parts of China. This paper intends to make an all-round study and discussion of the history of the Quaternary climatic changes and future climatic changes in China from an angle of the application and has furnished departments concerned with important information.
