THE EARLY TRIASSIC CONODONT FAUNA IN THE YASHAN AREA, NANLIN COUNTY, ANHUI PROVINCE

    • The Early Triassic strata are well developed in the Yashan area, Nanlin County, Anhui Province, yielding abundant fossils such as conodonts, ammonites and bivalves. In the course of regional geological mapping at a scale of 1: 50000, 114 conodont samples were systematically collected. Through analysis and treatment, 600 conodont individuals were obtained. They respectively belong to seven genera and 21 species. Six assemblages or zones have been established in ascending order as follows. 1. Neogodolella planata assemblage 2. Neospathodus dieneri zone 3. Neospathodus maageni zone 4. Diplodolella magmdentata assemblage 5. Neospathodus homeri assemblage 6. Neospathodus anhuiensis-N, collinsoni assemblage These provide new evidence for the stratigraphic classification and correlation of the Early Triassic strata in the area. Besides, the geological section and conodont fauna in the area have also been analyzed.
