METAMORPHIC CORE COMPLEXES IN SOUTHERN TIBET

    • The structure of the variously sized arched metamorphic core complex bodies in southern Tibet is marked by the inner core made up of the pre Sinian Yardoi Zala Group Complex, the detachment system of the Paleozoic Qoidekong Group Complex and the cover composed of the Upper Triassic Jixue and Nieru groups. The metamorphic core complexes may be classified into the multi layer, two layer and hidden types. They represent a form of continental extension structure formed by crustal extension, rise of deepseated material and multi layer decoupling in the stage of intracontinental adjustment after the collision between the Himalayan slab and the Gangdise Nyainqentanglha slab.
