Abstract
This paper introduces a large quantity of solitary rugose corals and a small quantity of brachiopods collected from the strata assigned originally to the Fanxia Mumber of the late Late Devonian Xikuangshan Formation at the secti- on of Wusheshan,Yougxin County,Jiangxi. It has been confirmed that there exists the early F arly Carboniferous Ceriphyllum elegantum assemblage zone. Besides,Cystophrentis, brachiopods and fossil plants were discovered in Shang- shuling,Pingxaing. This indicates that the Mengkongao Formation is laso not absent. Therefore, the contact between the Devonian and the Carboniferous should be conformable in western Jiangxi and the Liugiang movement did not- exist. The age of the Ningxiang-type iron deposit occurring in the Fanxia Formation should be early Early Carboniferous. Its stratigraphichorizon rjses gradually from west to east.
