BRACHIOPOD FAUNA FROM THE RED BEDS IN THE LOWER PART OF THE CARBONIFEROUS EXPOSED IN THE TAIZI RIVER VALLEY REGION,EASTERN LIAONING

    • Late Early Carboniferous to early Late Carboniferous red beds are well developed in the Taizi River region, eastern Liaoning Abundant brachiopod fossils, including 21 genera and 39 species, have been collected form two reddish mudstone beds The writers have analysed systematically the characters of the brachiopod fauna On the basis of the statistical analysis of the fauna and sedimentary and geochemical features, the Linoproductus Ovatia community, living near the low tide line of a gulf connecting with a normal sea, have been recognized The correlation between the brachiopod fauna in the study area and those in other parts of the world suggests that the fauna can be compared with that in Tianshan,Xinjiang So the authors propose that the study area belongs to the Tianshan Liaoji brachiopod biogeographic province
