A new knowledge on the Upper Pleistocene in northern Hebei

    • The Upper Pleistocene in northern Hebei is divisible into the Qian'an Formation and the Malan Formation. The former was deposited throughout the late Pleistocene and dominated by the fluvial sedimentation, characterized a warm climate at the early stage and by a cold climate condition at the late stage. It contains two kinds of assemblage zones. The Malan Formation was produced in late late Pleistocene times, whose sediments are of multiple origins and thought to be accumulated under cold arid climate conditions.
