    ON THE SOUTHWESTERN FUJIAN MOVEMENT

    • Carboniferous-Permian strata are extensively developed in southwestern Ffujian Province. The Lower Carboniferous Lindi Formation is in disconformable and locally unconformable contacts with the Middle Carboniferous Huanglong Formation or Jingshe Formation, between which there is a ferromanganese and siliceous-argillaceous paleocrust of weathering a few to more than en om thick. The elements of the fusulinid Pseudosta f fella zone are commonly absent at the base of the Middle Carbonifeous Huanglong Formation. The Lindi For- mation as well as the Upper Devonian Taozikeng and Tianwadong Formations have been commonly subjected to regional weak metamorphism.Layered or lenticular volcanic rocks are intercalated in the Early Carboniferous Jingshe Formation. All these signs indicate that a relatively intense crustal movement had taken place in the early Middle Carboniferous in southwestern Fujian.Iu this paper this movement is tentatively named the“Southwestern Fujian movement”.It is considered that this movement was dominated by verticcal movement with slight horizontal folding, belongine to a phase of the Variscan tectonic movement in Fujian Province. The tectonie disturbance and magmatic activity caused by the“Southwestern Fujian movement”are one of the important factors responsible for forming Making-type iron deposits. The discussion of the“Southwestern Fujian movement”is of theoretical and pratical significance for gaining a knowledge of the tectonic disturbance,sedi- mentary formations and distribution of mineral deposits in geological past in southwestern Fujian.
