FIRST DISCOVERY OF NEOLITHS IN LATE PLEISTOCENE STRATA IN JIANGSU

    • Neoliths were first discovered in Late Pleistocene strata in the vicinity of Mt. Zhongtou, Liyang County, when a 1:50000 geological survey was carried out in the Yixing-Liyang area, Jiangsu. The author considers that the Yangtze River delta of China is one of the sites of the origin of the human species. This discovery is of far-reaching significance to the study of Quaternary geology, paleogeography, archeology and paleoanthropology.
