Abstract
The concept of ocean plate stratigraphy was proposed by Japanese geologist Isozaki Y and some other experts in 1990. OPS is a tectonic-sedimentary sequence, which is set up by ocean plate movement from oceanic ridge to sea trench. Research on OPS has gained remarkably progress, which has enriched the meaning of OPS. This paper introduces basic concept, components, formation environment, and structural features of OPS. On such a basis, this paper discusses the role of OPS in regional geological and resources survey. It is preliminarily suggested that subduction accretional complex (SAC) should be used in place of 'ocean plate stratigraphy' in the study of orogenic belt. As 'stratigraphy' is not genetically equivalent to 'complex', the SAC is better than the OPS in usage.
