Deposit types, metallogenic belts and prospecting potential for uranium deposits in South America

    • South America possesses abundant uranium resources. The authors recognized six deposit types, i.e., sandstone, paleoquartz-pebble conglomerate, calcrete, volcanic, granite-related and metasomatite types, and selected 11 uranium deposits of the 6 types to analyze and summarize their geological features. Based on the study, the authors preliminarily delineated four uranium metallogenic belts in the continent, i.e., mid-Andean, Northern Argentina, Chubut, and Eastern South America metallogenic belts, and preferentially proposed several potential areas of uranium resources in the hope of providing some information for the 'going out' of uranium ore geologists.
