Petrological and petrochemical characteristics and geological significance of Yueyashan ophiolite

    • Yueyashan ophiolite is located in the Hongliuhe-Xichangjing ophiolite belt in the eastern part of Yueyashan area. Yueyashan ophiolite suite is exposed fairly completely, consisting in upward succession of ultrabasic complex, gabbro, layered basalt and pillow basalt as well as radiolarian siliceous rocks. Petrological, petrochemical and geochemical data show that the main unit in the ophiolite suite originated from mantle source and it is very similar to the modern oceanic crust ophiolite. The plagioclase granite associated with ophiolite unit belongs to mantle type oceanic plagioclase granite; in addition, it is a part of the ophiolite. Gabbro and basalt were both formed in a normal mid-ocean ridge (N-MORB) environment.
