A tentative discussion on the risk evaluation of slag debris flow based on disaster-resisting capability: A case study of the Xiaoqinling gold mining area

    • In consideration of the project for prevention and control of debris flow implemented by Chinese Government in recent years and the gradual strengthening of the disaster-resisting consciousness of the residents of mountain areas, the authors, starting with the role of the hazard-bearing body’s disaster-resisting capability in reducing the risk, tried to put forward the evaluation index and evaluation method for the disaster-resisting capability of the slag type debris flow, and applied the method and index to the debris flow risk evaluation model. The results of disaster-resisting capability evaluation show that all the gullies’ debris flow disaster-resisting indices are generally at a low level, and their capability for resisting debris flow disaster is not strong. The result of risk evaluation indicates that, of the 18 gullies, only the Beigou debris flow at Dongtongyu is of high risk, and all other gullies are of the medium risk. This result is lower than the evaluation result by the traditional debris flow evaluation model, which might directly reflect the expression of the active or passive resistance against the debris flow hazards in the region of debris flow gully.
