The study and application of overseas geology and mineral resource information metadata

Metadata is a description of the entity data content, quality, range and distribution, and hence constitutes the basis of the data sharing and socialization services. To serve the exploration of Chinese enterprises, we should understand the overseas geology and mineral resources metadata standard which refers to spatial and non-spatial information. In this paper, the metadata standard structure，contents and data dictionary are studied and constituted, and the roles of metadata are listed. Metadata production and application platform are developed to provide social services, with good results achieved. Meanwhile, the study presented here has laid a solid foundation for the work of Global Geology and Mineral Resources Information Sharing Working Committee (Sharing Alliance) of China Mining Association.
