Prediction and assessment of copper and gold resources based on information extracted from remote sensing images in Thailand

    • Geological information quantitative integration research is the frontier and hotspot of prospecting decision research in the world. The formation process of the large Cu-Au deposit is influenced by complicated geological events and restricted by various geological factors, such as strata, structures and alterations. In this paper, with the copper-gold ore district in Thailand as the study object, on the basis of geological anomaly theory and typical copper and gold metallogenic model, ETM+ remote sensing images, geological maps and mineral geology database in the study area, and in combination with GIS technique, the authors extracted the ore-forming information in this area such as geological information (strata, linear-circular faults, intrusions), remote sensing information (hydroxyl alteration, iron alteration, linear-circular structure), and delineated the Cu-Au prospective targets by using weights of evidence model. The research results show that the remote sensing and geological data can be combined to perform quick prediction and assessment in search for mineral resources in this metallogenic belt.
