The application of optical stimulate luminescence dating to the study of clustered landslides activity

    • Based on the analytical results of 10 large ancient landslides in the aspects of geological structure and stratigraphic lithology, combined with the features of the landslide along Longyang canyon-Jishi canyon in the upper reaches of the Yellow River in eastern Tibetan Plateau, this paper sums up five sampling methods for the landslide OSL dating. OSL dating method was used to measure 11 selected samples for determining chronology of landslide and analyzing the reliability of each sample. The relationship between the clustered landslides activity and the climate change was discussed in this paper. Studies have shown that, as the sources of samples are extensive, the experiment method is highly accurate and effective, and that the OSL method can be effectively applied to the determination of the landslide chronology. It can provides the reliable geological data for the landslide research; the large clusters of landslides in the study area are preliminarily divided into four periods, i.e., 130~110ka, 50~30ka, 12~9ka, and 5~3ka respectively, and the main triggering factors responsible for clustered landslide activities are explained.
