The Carboniferous-Permian coal-bearing bed in Saihan Toroi area of Ejin Banner within Yin'e basin, Inner Mongolia, and its significances

    • Based on an analysis of strata from nineteen petroleum and coal wells in Saihan Toroi area, this paper sums up the distribution of Mesozoic tectonic unit, the structure and the physical and chemical characteristics of the coal-bearing beds. The strata are composed of sedimentary pyroclastic rocks and mudstone intercalated with coal beds, which implies a rift basin environment. The coal-bearing beds are widely distributed among diverse tectonic units of Yin'e basin. The average thickness of coal beds from single well is 4.77m. The coal rocks are non-caking coal with poor evolution. The LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb ages of sedimentary pyroclastic rocks from the coal-bearing beds are (295.0±1.3)Ma and (303.4±2.8)Ma, suggesting the Late Carboniferous-Early Permian Ganquan Formation. The Carboniferous-Permian coal-bearing beds in Saihan Toroi area of Yin'e basin show bright prospects of coal industry, and provide basic evidence of the Carboniferous-Permian basin evolution and the sedimentary system as well as the burial history of this area.
