Abstract
Shanxi is a rich coal province, and accumulative total coal outputs are about 87.88 hundred millions ton in 30 years from 1978 to 2007. Exploitation activities have created gigantic breakage to mine area environment. It leads to four problems which are water resource breakage, mine ground distortion and land resource and vegetation resource breakage in exploitation sink area, mine "three wastes" and soil degeneration caused by mining coal. This paper based the investigation on environment status excavated coal in Shanxi for many years, and adopted environment economy loss coefficient of mining one ton studied by environment protection, Water Resources and Land and Resources departments. It evaluated initially to environment damage caused by excavating coal in Shanxi. It also forecasted environment extent of damages suffered from excavating coal in the coming years .
