Remote sensing images and distribution characteristics of avalanche and landslide geohazards in the western part of the Weibei Plateau, Shaanxi Province

    • Neotectonic activity is intense and avalanches and landslides take place frequently in the western part of the Weibei Plateau 1:50,000 special-subject remote-sensing interpretation, geological survey in key areas and remote-sensing interpretation in the whole region show that there are a total of 611 avalanche and landslide geohazards, including 17 large-sized landslides, 194 medium-sized landslides, 385 small-sized landslides and 15 small-sized avalanches. According to regional geography and geo-environmental characteristics, large- and medium-sized landslide points in the region are dived into five concentrated distribution areas and six concentrated distribution zones. The landslides geohazards are mainly controlled by landforms, neotectonics and lithology. On the basis of geohazard centralized distributing areas and zones and by referring to the influence scope of key geohazard points and human activities, the Chengguan Township-Cuijiatou Township (Qianyang County), Duyang Township (Longxian County)-Caobi Township (Qianyang County) and Xiakouhe-Yanghegou (Longxian County) areas are listed as the key areas of geohazard prevention, control and monitoring.
