Mode of occurrence of karst groundwater in the Northern Shaanxi Energy and Chemical Industry Base and its influence factors

Karst groundwater is one of the important water sources for solving the use of water in the Northern Shaanxi Energy & Chemical Industry Base. In order to exploit karst groundwater rationally, the mode of occurrence of karst groundwater at a regional scale and in the study area were analyzed using a wealth of data from boreholes and pumping tests. The results show that the occurrence and concentration of karst groundwater in the study area were mainly controlled by the strata/lithology, structural conditions and hydrological network. Karst groundwater in the study area occurs mainly in carbonate rocks of the Middle Ordovician Upper Majiagou and Lower Majiagou formations, while karst is poorly developed in other horizons and karst groundwater is meager. Controlled by faults and folds and influenced by the datum plane of the Yellow River discharge. Karst groundwater concentrates in the narrow segment from Tianqiao to the Qingshui Stream mouth, Fugu County, along the bank of the Yellow River, where three karst water source fields may be built in Qingshuichuan, Langwan and Tianqiao.
