Thermal inertia mapping and permafrost study

This paper introduces the application of the thermal inertia mapping technique in permafrost study. In the study, the authors used the MODIS satellite image data and the thermal inertia method to analyze the permafrost on the northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The results show that the areal extent of the permafrost distribution delineated by the thermal inertia images is very coincident with the results of conventional field investigation.
