Laboratory tests for the sedimentation of dredger fill in the Lianyungang area, Jiangsu, China

    • With the rapid development of China's harbor construction in recent years, using dredged mud in sea reclamation has become an effective way for alleviating the shortage of land resources in coastal cities. However, the properties of dredged mud are very complicated and its natural sedimentation and consolidation process takes a long time. Therefore the study of the characteristics of dredger fill sedimentation and mechanism of its self-weight consolidation is very important. Through laboratory sedimentation tests of dredger fill in Lianyungang, the sedimentary characteristics of dredger fill under the hydrostatic conditions and its consolidation properties have been systematically analyzed and studied, and through a quantitative analysis of the microscopic structure of deposited dredger fill, many important parameters such as the diameter, abundance, shape, directional frequency and directional fractal dimensions of pores have been gained. The results of the tests provide a scientific basis for the improvement of dredger fill foundation and have great significance for engineering practice.
