Conditions for CO2 geological sequestration in China and some suggestions

    • Global climatic warming resulting from greenhouse gases emitted during fossil fuel burning is a serious environmental issue that mankind is facing. The most effective and real countermeasure for CO2 mitigation is CO2 geological sequestration. Based on the international research results of CO2 geological sequestration, the proper geological conditions and potential regions of CO2 sequestration in China are analyzed. It is preliminarily estimated that the total CO2 geological sequestration capacity is about 1454.8 billion tons in China. It is suggested that investigations of geological conditions for CO2 sequestration and research on related major scientific and technological problems should be strengthened in the near term.
