Comparative study of the geological structure of the Eastern and West Kunlun Mountains

    • This paper preliminarily summarizes four major characteristics of the geological structure of the Kunlun orogenic belt and three major clues to the geological correlation of the East and West Kunlun and redefines the tectonic units and makes a correlation of them.It proposes the important significance for the study of the Kunlun orogenic belt and the basic idea for its study. It is pointed out that the Kunlun oro-genic belt is a zone formed by the break-up of the older Caledonian orogenic belt into oceans and again amalgamation of them and a transition-junction zone of ocean-land transition of the Proto -Tethys and Paleo -Tethys.The belt has conserved much information about the tectonic evolution from collisional orogeny to mountain aging and break-up.It is probably an important window through which we may get an understanding of how the continent of China and even the Eurasian continent achieved the ocean-con-tinent transition through the aforesaidtransition and junction to amalgamate various continental blocks and its analysis has guiding significance for the study of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau that is presently still in the post-collision development stage. This complex transition-junction zone is also a very favorable zone for mineralization.
