SPOROPOLLEN ASSEMBLAGES AND THEIR AGESIN THE YANGCA OGOUCOAL MINE JIUTAI COUNTY JILIN PROVINCE

    • The Yangcaogou coal mining area is located on the southeastern margin of the Songliao subsidence zone, within the territory of Jiutai county, Changchun City. In the area the Early Cretaceous Yingcheng Formation and Quantou Formation contain an abundance of spores and pollen. From below upwards three sporopollen assemblages may be distinguished. 1. The volcanic rock member of the Yingcheng Formation The sporopollen assemblage is represented by Cyatidites-Cicatricosisporites-Pinuspollenites. 2. The coal-bearing clastic rock member of the Yingcheng Formation The sporopollen assemblage is represented by Appendicisporites-Cicatricosis porites-piceaepollenites-clavatipollenites. The geological age of the Yingcheng Formation is early Barremian-Aptian. 3. The Quantou Formation The sporopollen assemblage is represented by Schizaeoisporites-pinaceae-Tricolpopollenites. Its geological age is Albian (Early Cretaceous), but the possibility of its assignment to the early Late Cretaceous cannot be ruled out.
