DISCOVERY AND SIGNIFICANCE OF A HUGE GLACIAL BOULDER IN GEXIANSHAN, PENGZHOU, SICHUAN

    • A huge glacial boulder has been found at Gexianshan, Pengzhou, Sichuan. It, about 6 km×2.5 km×0.3 km in area, is a rare huge glacial boulder discovered up to now in the world. This huge boulder is distributed about 3 4 km along the margin of the Sichuan basin. Study of available data indicates that it was formed by transportation of the ice flow of the early Pleistocene Qinghai Tibet great ice sheet. It is one of the convincible evidences for the existence of the Qinghai Tibet great ice sheet as well as an important historic witness for the formation of the global pan ice sheet. This huge glacial boulder provides a new idea, a new way and a new method for the study of fundamental theories of numerous related borderline disciplines.
