STRATIGRAPHICAL DIVISION AND CORRELATION OF THE RED BEDS IN SMALL BASINS DISPERSED ON THE GUIZHOU PLATEAU

    • In the paper opinions of the stratigraphic division and correlation of the red beds in small basins dispersed on the Guizhou plateau are advanced on the basis of Late Cretaceous fossils such as Tyrannosaurus of Dinatontid and Porochara anluensis Z.Wang, P.gonganzhaiensis Z.Wang, Platychara sp. and Maedlerisphaera sp. of charophytes, in connection with the lithologic section and structural setting and by analogy with the strata of adjacent provinces(regions). It is ascertained that all the red beds on the Guizhou plateau are of late Cretaceous age except those in southwestern Guizhou which are Paleogene in age. Thus it follows that the last phase of the Yanshanian movement still took place between the late Cretaceous and the Paleogene, but the red beds only occurred sparsely after the uplift of the entire plateau.
