Abstract:
Triassic strata are widespread in the Nanping Zoige area, northwestern Sichuan Province. The Triassic stratigraphic sequence and lithological character in this area is very similar to those of its neighboring southern West Qinling. Through comparative study of the data of Triassic stratigraphic sections in the Nanping Zoige area, four Triassic lithostratigraphic units are recognized. In ascending order they are: (1) the Middle Triassic Guanggaishan Formation, (2) the Upper Triassic Zuilang Formation, (3) the Upper Triassic Nalu Formation, and (4) the Upper Triassic Kache Formation. Integrated analysis of indications of sedimentary facies indicates that there occur the four following Middle Upper Triassic sediment types: (1) carbonate debris flow deposits, (2) carbonate contourite, (3) terrestrial clastic turbidity current deposits, (4) non gravitation flow normal abyssal carbonate and clastic deposits.
