Abstract:
The geoiogical structures in the southwxestrn sector of the Lianhuashan fault zone in eastern Guangdong consist of three parallel NE trending master faults. Since the Yanshanian stage, this fault zone has undergonc multi-level, multi-stage conversion of different mechanic properties on a background of dynamothermal regional metamorphism, thus forming acomplex fault system The structural deformation in the southwestern sector of the Lianhuashan fault zone is divided into deeplevel ductile deformation, shallow-level brittle deformation and extensional downfaulting related to the uplifts in the continental-margin mobile zone. Besides, according to large quantities of geological-geomorphological data and the relations of the faults to the distribution of earthquakes and hot springs, Neoid mobility of the fault zone is discussed. It is considered that the center of the the present activity has shifted towards westers the western side of the fault zone and that the Shenzhen-Gaotan fault is a presnt high-rate active fault, with the energy of its activity released and consumed through frequent occurrences of earthquakes and gush of hot springs.
