Abstract: Regional geological survey is comprehensive fundamental geological work.It covers almost all geological fields and more than 90% of its data is intimately associated with spatial positions.Therefore,the application of GIS in regional geological survey is very promising.With regard to the characteristics and requirements of regional geological survey,the paper discusses the problems in GIS application,including the equipment of hardwares,selection of softwares,training of professional personnel and standardization,with emphasis on the application prospect and significance of GIS in the establishment of the nationwide bank of geological maps ,regional mapping and management of regional surveys across the country.
