Abstract:
High-quality groundwater contained in the Shijiazhuang alluvial fan is the main source of domestic water supply for more than two million inhabitants in the urban district of Shijiazhuang as well as industrial and agricultural water supplies. However, substantial amounts of urban garbage are dumped and buried at the surface, which constitutes a serious pollution threat to the groundwater source. With the help of the interpretation of satellite remote sensing image data and on-the-spot sampling and tests, the authors have evaluated the environmental-hydrogeological conditions of the ground water source area and garbage dumping, burial and distribution and their pollution of groundwater. In addition, countermeasures for pollution prevention and control are also presented.
