Abstract:
The Heyuan basin is located in east-central Guangdong Province, where the Cretaceous-Neogene strata are widely distributed. This sequence of strata is divided into three formations, namely, the Geling Formation and the newly-erected Xiantang and Dongyuan formations. Apart from dinosaur bones, dinosaur footprints and fossil turtles, large numbers of fossil eggs are also found in the Cretaceous Dongyuan Formation of this basin. In the lower part of this formation Spheroolithus-type eggs are dominant, while in the middle and upper parts mainly Elongatoolithus-type eggs are found. This paper describes Paraspheroolithus sanwangbacunensis sp. nov., Dendroolithus fengguangcunensis sp. nov., Macroolithus yaotunensis and Elongatoolithus elongates.
