Abstract:
In the past30years several investigation teams have carried out multidisciplinary systematic study of the Cretaceous and Paleogene in the Nanxiong basin,Guangdong, and significant results in the study of petrostratigraphy, paleontology, biostratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy and chemostratigraphy in this basin have been published. On the basis of these data, coupled with the isotope ages obtained from the strata with an age equivalent to that of the Nongshan Formation in the Xinzhou basin,Hubei, the authors hold that the age of the Shanghu Formation in the basin may be approximately correlated to the early Danian of Europe or to the Puercan and Torrejonian of North America, and that its base is possibly close to the Creta-ceous/Paleogene boundary.
