Abstract:
The Meishan Group is represented by a low grade metamorphic series. It is distributed in an area from Jinzhai of Anhui to Shangcheng of Henan,at the northern foot of the Dabie Mountains. On the basis of 1∶50000 regional surveys, the authors discuss the connotation, rock association, metamorphism and deformation, regional correlation and age assignment of the Meishan Group. It is considered that the Meishan Group is notably different from the Foziling Group and the Carboniferous in respect of rock association and features of metamorphism and deformation. From a regional correlation, the protoliths of the Meishan Group were formed in the Early Paleozoic. The Meishan Group is a tectonic slice lying underneath the Foziling Group and thrust over the Carboniferous.
